How did Bill Gates make his first million?
Bill Gates, the famous founder of Microsoft and philanthropist, made his first million by co-founding Microsoft in 1975. He and his partner, Paul Allen, created a version of the BASIC programming language for the Altair 8800, one of the first personal computers.
Microsoft grew quickly in 1980 after landing a contract with IBM to provide the operating system for their first PC. When Microsoft went public in 1986, Gates’s shares made him a millionaire. The initial price for Microsoft shares was $21 each, and Gates owned a portion of the company, setting him on the path to becoming one of the richest people in the world.
