How did Kevin O’Leary make his first million?
Kevin O’Leary likely made his first million when his company, SoftKey, started selling software bundled with plotters. Here is his story.
Kevin O’Leary started his entrepreneurial journey as soon as he started his college life, where he did multiple projects. One of which led to his first million dollars.
When Kevin got admitted to a business school, he asked his dean that since he is going to spend 24 months getting the degree, why don’t they let him make a film about the whole experience. Dean agreed and let him make the documentary for 30 grand. That was Kevin’s first transaction.
Kevin and his photography crew then created a special event show on television; it became famous. In two years, the show got bought out. It was his first transaction, but Kevin made his first million later.
Towards the end of his program, he enrolled in a night computer class where he met a guy named John Freeman. Kevin worked with John to create a company that made software packages for the plotter company. They named the company, SoftKey. Their first product was called KeyChart. They started selling software bundled with different plotters. This is where, Kevin thinks, he made his first million dollars.
Eventually Kevin bought John out of the company and later made the company public. When company became and Kevin saw the stock price, he realized that he was rich.
